Driving test day — it’s natural to feel nervous. The good news? If you’ve trained with Safe & Test Ready Driving School, you’ll already know what to expect.

Before the test

Make sure you have:

  • Your provisional licence

  • A car that meets DVSA requirements (your instructor’s car is perfect!)

  • Glasses or contact lenses if you need them

Arrive 10 minutes early at your chosen test centre — whether that’s High Wycombe, Aylesbury, or Slough.

The eyesight check

Your examiner will ask you to read a number plate from 20 metres away.

The “show me, tell me” questions

You’ll be asked one “tell me” question before driving and one “show me” while driving. These are simple checks like “Tell me how you’d check your tyres” or “Show me how to clean your windscreen.”

The driving part

You’ll drive for around 40 minutes and cover:

  • Town driving

  • Rural roads

  • Possibly dual carriageways

  • One manoeuvre (like parallel parking or bay parking)

  • 20 minutes of independent driving (following signs or sat nav)

After the test

You’ll return to the centre, park up, and get your result immediately. Pass or fail, your examiner will explain any faults — so you know exactly how to improve.

Top tip: Remember, it’s not about being perfect — it’s about being safe.

When you’re ready, we’ll help you feel calm, confident and in control — the Safe & Test Ready way.
